内容記述 | Kendo protective gear warehouses in summer have peculiar and unpleasant odors. In this study, we investigated the causes of the odors in a protective gear warehouse and the methods to control them. Bacteria were collected from various types of protective gears and body suits stored in the warehouse. When they were cultured on the standard agar media, the similar unpleasant odors as the warehouse were perceived from the bacteria colonies. Although many kinds of species were identified based on their DNA sequences, a high percentage of spore-forming bacteria such as Bacillus cereus and Priestia megaterium were found. To control the unpleasant odors, Bacillus. cereus and Staphylococcus aureus (spore-non-forming bacteria) were irradiated with various intensities of X-rays. Although S. aureus strains were sterilized at 800 Gray, Bacillus cereus strains were sterilized at 9,000 Gray. Since X-ray irradiation of foods at 10,000 Gray or less has been reported to be safe, the irradiation of protective gears and body suits at 9,000 Gray was supposed to be practically useful conditions. We also found that dilute hydrochloric acid as well as hypochlorous acid reduced the bad odors. From these results, it is presumed that it is possible to control the malodors of the kendo protective gear warehouse. | |||||||
