内容記述 | Maintaining adequate bone density is important for reducing the risk of requiring nursing care. Teachers who walk around their classrooms while instructing students take frequent steps amounting to light physical activity. Thus, teachers who are more active within the classroom might have higher bone density. We examined the influence of walking while teaching and sex on bone density in teachers. The study participants were 107 teachers classified as high- or low-frequency walkers based on their subjective self-ratings. The quantitative ultrasound method was used to measure bone density, and osteo sono-assessment index (OSI) was used as the evaluation variable. We carried out an analysis of covariance using age as the covariate. OSI was significantly higher in the high-frequency group than in the low-frequency group for walkers of both sexes. In addition, the average OSI value in the low-frequency group exceeded the standard values for the average age of both sexes. In short, teachers appear to have high overall bone density. Increasing a teacher’s physical activity within the classroom might further increase bone density. | |||||||
