Fatigue lives of both materials were found to reveal a step-wise S-N curve, which tended to come down again in the long life region above 107 cycles. Some specimens of SNCM439 were ruptured by internal fracture mode at very high cycle fatigue regime around 108 cycles, while other specimens fractured by surface fracture mode. On the other hand, internal fracture mode due to a non-metallic inclusion only appeared on YXR7 specimens irrespective of fatigue lives.
