The glasses synthesized by the hydrolysis of Si(OC_2H_5)_4, Al(NO_3)_3・6H_2O, Eu(NO_3)_3・6H_2O were heated in air at 800℃. The emission spectrum for the Eu ions consists of two emissions bands: a blue Eu^<2+> emission and a red Eu^<3+> emission. The fluorescence intensity for the Eu^<2+> ions decreases, and the fluorescence intensity for the Eu^<3+> ions increases with increasinng the temperature. It was found that the reabsorption of the blue Eu^<2+> emission is responsible for the fluorescence of the Eu^<3+> ions.
