| 内容記述 | This study explores how the concept of “openness” in traditional Japanese housing is reinterpreted in contemporary Japanese housing through the addition of keyword “connect”. While traditional openness emphasized harmony with nature and flexible spatial boundaries, modern urban conditions require alternative strategies in creating spatial and visual openness. Evolving lifestyles and shifts in family structure further contribute to the consideration in contemporary housing design. A textual analysis of Jutakutokushu (JT) magazine reveals a notable rise in the use of the term “connect” between 2014 and 2018. This study examines architectural works containing the keyword “connect” to understand how connection with family, neighbors, and environment has become central to new interpretations of “openness”. The reading resulted in seven types of contexts on how “connect” is used: general information, spatial connection that includes: spatial arrangement, spatial layout, and general spatial connection, social connection, sensorial connection, conceptual connection, connection with nature, and connection with surrounding environment. These categories suggest that creating connection is an important aspect in creating sense of openness in contemporary house. | |||||||
