It was found that sludge alone is economically disadvantageous, but the addition of the entire amount of food waste generated can be economically advantageous. On the other hand, when processing 30% of the food waste, the costs for the existing facilities were same as those for the integrated Ishikawa model. Since food waste is often incinerated as combustible waste, a future challenge is how to collect it.
